The ON/AVN Support Group Int'l Association, Inc.

              Osteonecrosis - Avascular necrosis support
A "road map" for using our website
and Yahoo Community site
ON/AVN  Road Map

This article is designed to help you understand and navigate between our organization’s sites. I used the plural form of “site”
because in effect, we do have two sites. However, we are ONE organization, one group which uses both sites. They are both
under the banner of
The ON/AVN Support Group Int’l Association, Inc.

Here they are, explained:

Our Website ~
http://avnsupport.org

This is our main website, where you are right now, which is like our business card to the world! It is the place where all those
seeking help with AVN land, sooner or later. Of course, our website is designed to tell the world a bit about AVN: what is it, how it
affects us, and what we can do about it to help make our lives livable again. It invites all those who wish to become a member of
our organization to join us.

It is a static site, meaning, there are no places on it where organization members can interact with one another. There are some
survey pages and feedback forms that invite people to send in very limited info, but that is not what is actually meant by
‘interactive.’ If we relied upon our website only, then people with AVN would miss out on a wealth of information which is so vast
that our website could not readily or easily contain it all! So, we had to find a system where we could truly interact with each
other, and a place in which to store our vast libraries of information. Our website is therefore also a doorway to our interactive site,
or place on Yahoo, our Yahoo Community, which is private and by invitation only. Once a person joins our organization, they are
invited to join our interactive Yahoo community, which is secure from hackers, spammers, scammers, and disruptors of all types.

Our Yahoo Community ~
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/avnsupportgroupinternational/

This is where you will find more information on AVN and so many other topics that it would be very difficult to list or store them
all on our website. Did you know that if you printed out our entire list of Links, for example, that it would take well over 100 sheets
of typing paper? That’s a lot of links!

I think one of the best features in our Yahoo community is our Message Board, where people come to share their experiences and
knowledge, ask questions, and bond with their fellow members. When you are diagnosed with a rare ailment and get very little
understanding from all those around you, it is a very comforting thing to be able to connect with someone else who has AVN, and
who really knows how you might feel. And, we come together to share so many new things going on in the world of AVN that it
would be a shame to miss out on it all! It’s the ability to communicate with each other that is so rewarding, something that cannot
happen on our website (which, for all intents and purposes is like reading a book).

Also, there are many other features in our Yahoo community that are not only useful, but some are entertaining as well. We have
our Links, Files, and Database areas which are all where our information is stored. We like to think of them as our libraries of
information, because that is what they truly are. Take the time to browse through those areas and you will see there are links and
papers on just about every topic there is concerning AVN and/or dealing with chronic illness. Many members were able to get
SSDI approval very quickly, for example, because they took the time to read the info they found in our community’s libraries.

So, we have something for everyone. If all you want is to refer to our website now and then, that’s fine. It’s here for your
convenience and you do not have to join our organization to read through our website.

But, if you wish to really ‘dig in’ and get involved in a more interactive way, and to avail yourself of a great quantity of good
information and a lot of moral support, then you should also join our Yahoo Community.

If you ever have any questions on anything to do with our organization or our Yahoo community site, please feel free to write to
me at
avnrie@avnsupport.org

Please remember that while we do not charge anything to join us, your donations would be greatly appreciated, and are needed.
